Cal is hiring former Oregon co-defensive coordinator Keith Heyward to fill the same role with the Golden Bears. Heyward released a statement Monday on social media confirming his departure from the Ducks' program.

Heyward, who also served as the safeties coach, will replace Tim DeRuyter, who accepted Oregon's defensive coordinator position last week.

The 40-year-old coordinator spent the past four seasons with the Ducks and added the assistant head coach title to his other duties in the last two years.

Oregon lured DeRuter to Eugene after previous co-defensive coordinator Andy Avalos left the program to become head coach at Boise State.

The Golden Bears will be the Oregon State alum's fifth Pac-12 stop after previous coaching stints at his alma mater, USC, Washington, and Oregon.

Heyward previously worked with Cal head coach Justin Wilcox and current co-defensive coordinator Peter Sirmon at Washington from 2012-13.
