Ohio State running back Trey Sermon exited Monday's national championship game early in the first quarter with an apparent shoulder injury and is being taken to a hospital, according to ESPN's Maria Taylor.

The senior left the game after taking just one carry for two yards.

Sophomore Master Teague stepped in and scored a touchdown on the Buckeyes' next drive.

Sermon is coming off a monster stretch in which he ran for 193 yards and a touchdown against Clemson in the CFP semifinals and rushed for 331 yards and two scores in the Big Ten title game against Northwestern.

Teague was the bell-cow back prior to the regular-season finale against Michigan State. He took 26 carries for 169 yards and two touchdowns against Indiana on Nov. 21.
