Illinois quarterback Brandon Peters tested positive for COVID-19 and is one of several players who will miss Saturday's game against Purdue, the school announced.

Peters and tight end Griffin Moore both tested positive and won't be eligible to play until Nov. 21 at the earliest because of the Big Ten's coronavirus protocols.

Several other players will miss the Purdue contest and a Nov. 7 matchup with Minnesota due to contact tracing.

Peters, a senior who began his college career at Michigan, went 8 of 19 for 87 yards in a 45-7 loss to Wisconsin in the Big Ten's return to competition. He threw for 1,884 yards with 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions last year, helping the Fighting Illini reach a bowl game for the first time since 2014.
