Wisconsin had up to 22 cases of COVID-19 as of Saturday morning, athletic director Barry Alvarez said on ESPN's "College GameDay."

The new total marks a six-case increase from Thursday's reported tally of 16.

"I just got a report this morning, today we are at 10 staff, 12 players, a total of 22," Alvarez said, according to Paul Harvey of Saturday Tradition. "So we are still having additions in our cases, and that's something we have to get our arms around and control of."

The Badgers were already forced to nix their game Saturday against Nebraska because of the outbreak. The Badgers are supposed to face Purdue on Nov. 7, but the spike in cases could also jeopardize the feasibility of that matchup.

"We'll take a look at where we are and our positive testing and make a decision on Tuesday," said Alvarez.

Wisconsin dismantled Illinois 45-7 in its Big Ten opener and 2020 season debut.
