It appears we will soon have some clarity on the Big Ten's plans for the 2020 college football season, as a source told Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports that the conference's presidents are expected to vote on a return to play in the next 72 hours.

The news comes after the medical committee on the conference's return-to-play task force made a presentation to a number of presidents and chancellors Saturday. A formal presentation to the entire Council of Presidents and Chancellors is expected Sunday with a vote on potentially starting the season coming at some point afterward.

The Big Ten announced Aug. 11 that it was postponing its season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Since that time, a number of parents of Big Ten players have protested at the conference's headquarters in Illinois, while numerous head coaches, including Ohio State's Ryan Day, have made passioned pleas for the conference to conduct a fall season.

It's unclear how the addition of the Big Ten to the fall schedule would impact the College Football Playoff, but the selection show to pick the four schools that will compete in the semifinals is scheduled for Dec. 20.
