Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders underwent surgery to repair a thumb injury and won't return this regular season, according to Dusty Dvoracek of ESPN.

However, Sanders reportedly hasn't been ruled out for the team's bowl game.

The freshman exited last week's 31-13 win against Kansas in the third quarter after injuring his throwing hand.

Since winning the Cowboys' starting role over Dru Brown in the offseason, Sanders posted 2,065 yards and 16 passing touchdowns in 10 games. He added 625 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Brown transferred to Oklahoma State after two seasons with Hawaii. The senior signal-caller completed 3 of 5 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown while filling in for Sanders against the Jayhawks.

The 7-3 Cowboys face West Virginia on Saturday before a much-anticipated matchup with Oklahoma on Nov. 30.
