Nebraska and head coach Scott Frost agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2026 season, the school announced Saturday.

"Two years ago, we had the tremendous opportunity to bring Scott Frost home to Nebraska to lead our football program into the future," the Cornhuskers said in a statement. "We are even more committed to that decision today. Coach Frost has shown tremendous leadership in beginning to rebuild our football program."

The former UCF head coach was hired by Nebraska in December 2017 and originally signed a five-year, $35-million contract

Scott, who played his college football for the Cornhuskers, went 4-8 last season before entering 2019 with relatively high expectations. However, Nebraska sits at just 4-5 and is running out of time to become bowl eligible this year.

"We appreciate that a change of this nature will not happen overnight," the Cornhuskers added. "We are committed to Scott and the direction he is taking this program. Scott is the right coach at the right time for this program. We are excited for the heights to which he will take Nebraska football and the tremendous impact he will have in the development of our student-athletes."

Nebraska has lost three straight games. The team will face No. 14 Wisconsin on Saturday before a road date with Maryland and a home contest against No. 20 Iowa.
