LSU quarterback Joe Burrow was crowned the Heisman Trophy winner in a landslide vote Saturday, cementing his status as the nation's most outstanding player in 2019.

Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, and Ohio State defensive end Chase Young were the other finalists for the award.

Burrow received the first-place vote on a record 90.7% of ballots. He won the contest by 1,846 points, breaking the record for the largest margin of victory, which was previously held by O.J. Simpson.

Final votes

Rank Player Total points
1 Joe Burrow 2608
2 Jalen Hurts 762
3 Justin Fields 747
4 Chase Young 643

Burrow morphed into a phenom in 2019, his second season in Baton Rouge since transferring from Ohio State. He broke the SEC record with 48 touchdown passes while committing only six interceptions. His 4,715 passing yards ranked second in the FBS behind only Anthony Gordon of Washington State.

The 23-year-old steered LSU to five wins over teams that were ranked in the top 10 when they met this season. In those games, he had four 300-yard passing performances and tossed 15 touchdowns against two interceptions. In his signature outing of the year, he led the Tigers to their first win over Alabama since 2011.

Burrow's banner campaign also included a 13-0 record and the SEC championship.

Burrow joins Billy Cannon, who received the award in 1959, as the only two Heisman winners in LSU history.
