New Miami quarterback Tate Martell will request a waiver from the NCAA for immediate eligibility and will base his case on the coaching staff turnover at his former school Ohio State, Martell's attorney told Kyle Rowland of The Blade.

"That definitely is part of it," Travis Leach said when asked about the coaching staff. "You try to throw as much against the wall as you can. I think the fact that there were some circumstances that happened, some personality clashes at the school - we want to be fair to everyone involved. That's the approach we're going to go down."

Ohio State saw head coach Urban Meyer retire after the season, with offensive coordinator Ryan Day chosen to take over the reins. Day spent two seasons in charge of the offense, but when Martell committed to the Buckeyes in 2016, Tim Beck and Ed Warinner headed up the unit.

Martell announced his decision to transfer Wednesday and arrived in South Florida to enroll in classes Thursday.

"It was pretty wild and pretty quick," Martell said of his transfer, according to Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press. "But it was something I needed to get done, obviously, in a short time. And with school starting, I had to get it done fast."

As a graduate transfer without a degree, Martell could potentially be forced to sit out the 2019 season if he isn't granted a waiver.

The former five-star recruit left the Buckeyes two weeks after former Georgia quarterback Justin Fields announced he would be joining the team.
