Texas 2-step: QBs Buechele, Rising set to transfer

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Two quarterbacks are on the verge of leaving Texas, as Shane Buechele and Cameron Rising are set to transfer, the school confirmed to Mark Schlabach of ESPN.

Both pivots were below Sam Ehlinger on the depth chart, who'll be a junior next season.

Buechele will be able to play in 2019 as a graduate transfer and has two years of eligibility remaining overall. He was once a prized recruit of former Texas coach Charlie Strong and famously chose to play for the Longhorns despite growing up in a family of Oklahoma fans.

Buechele won the starting quarterback job at Texas during his freshman campaign, but lost it to Ehlinger - a Tom Herman recruit - the next year. He threw for 4,636 yards with 30 touchdowns and 16 interceptions over 23 appearances with the Longhorns.

Rising does not have his degree and, therefore, must sit out a year upon moving to a new school. He did not accumulate any stats at Texas.
