Report: FAU's Kiffin offers scholarship to Matt Leinart's 11-year-old son

Florida Atlantic head coach Lane Kiffin has offered a scholarship to the 11-year-old son of former USC and NFL quarterback Matt Leinart, according to ESPN's Tom VanHaaren.

Cole Leinart, a 5-foot-7 quarterback in sixth grade, could benefit from his father's relationship to Kiffin from when the two worked together during Leinart's final year at USC. The NCAA doesn't officially recognize scholarship offers until a player's ninth-grade year.

Kiffin once offered a similar scholarship to 13-year-old David Sills, also a quarterback. Sills would decommit from the Trojans after Kiffin was fired and the new staff had received a commitment from a top-300 QB.

Sills then wound up at West Virginia as a wide receiver and had his best season in 2017 with 60 receptions for 980 yards and 18 touchdowns.
