Oklahoma announced the firing defensive coordinator Mike Stoops on Monday.

The Sooners' defense gave up 501 yards in a 48-45 loss to Texas on Saturday. It was the most points Oklahoma has allowed in the history of the Red River Showdown.

Stoops, the younger brother of former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, served two separate stints as the team's defensive coordinator. He returned in 2012 after spending eight seasons as Arizona's head coach.

Oklahoma currently ranks 89th in the FBS in total defense, having allowed 405.2 yards per game.
