Georgia freshman Zamir White injures left knee in practice

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Georgia freshman tailback Zamir White is having tests to determine the severity of a left knee injury suffered in a scrimmage.

Coach Kirby Smart says White sustained the non-contact injury while working on a punt coverage team Saturday at Sanford Stadium. Smart says White is having a MRI on the knee.

White, from Laurinburg, North Carolina, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during his senior season in high school. He was limited in spring practice and given full clearance for the start of preseason drills.

Georgia is looking to replace tailbacks Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. White, one of the biggest names in Georgia's top-ranked 2018 signing class, was expected to compete for immediate playing time. Georgia returns D'Andre Swift, Elijah Holyfield and Brian Herrien at the position and also signed James Cook.
