Attorney: Zach Smith feels he deserves his job back

Greg Bartram-US PRESSWIRE

The attorney for Zach Smith said Saturday the former Ohio State receivers coach believes he should be re-employed.

"I think it's unrealistic, but I know Zach feels as though he's deserving of having his job back," Bradley Koffel told The Columbus Dispatch's Bill Rabinowitz.

Smith was fired July 23 after a report brought to light a domestic abuse investigation involving him from 2015. Smith wasn't charged in connection with the incident.

He was also arrested in 2009 following a domestic incident, but wasn't charged in that case either. More recently - July 18, to be exact - Smith appeared in court for a criminal trespassing citation, while his ex-wife, Courtney, filed for a protective order against him.

Smith is expected to meet with Ohio State investigators over the next week as the school looks into Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer's knowledge of the 2015 incident and if he reported it to his superiors in proper fashion.

Koffel said his client has "nothing to hide," and will answer all questions from the investigative committee.

Meyer is on administrative leave while Ohio State's investigation is ongoing.
