It appears Shea Patterson has a solid backup plan if football doesn't work out for him, as the Michigan quarterback signed a deal with the Texas Rangers to play in 2019, a source told Nick Baumgardner of the Detroit Free Press.

Despite not playing baseball since high school, he was taken in the 39th round of June's MLB draft by the American League West outfit.

Patterson, who transferred from Ole Miss in the offseason, has two years of eligibility left with the Wolverines and won't play in any baseball games while he's still playing football.

Baumgardner reports that the contract is a six-year deal and will allow the talented pivot to work with Rangers staff when he's not participating in football activities with Michigan.

Patterson won't be the only high-profile college quarterback to sign with an MLB squad, as Oklahoma's Kyler Murray was a first-round pick by the Oakland Athletics in the latest draft.
