Former Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin disappointed many fans when he left after just one season to take the same position at USC in 2010.

Some were so disappointed, in fact, that when Kiffin returned to Neyland Stadium as offensive coordinator of Alabama in 2014, the team's security staff was prepared to take drastic measures.

"It's crazy. They were literally talking about - from the bus - a bulletproof vest," Kiffin said on ESPN's "Marty Smith's America" podcast. "I'm like, 'Come on, guys. This is football.' They said, 'No, really.' They had security with me the whole way, even walking on the field ...

"I'm just like 'I'm not wearing a vest, guys. All right?' That's a little bit over the top. It was all in fun. There was a lot of mean words said - four-letter words. That speaks of Tennessee's fans, just how passionate they are."

Alabama put up 469 yards of total offense in a 34-20 win over Kiffin's old school.

Kiffin's currently the head coach of Florida Atlantic.
