With the ninth pick in the 2018 MLB amateur draft, the Oakland Athletics selected Kyler Murray, a two-sport star from the University of Oklahoma.

Murray is a highly touted outfielder with first-round talent on the diamond, and he's also a quarterback for the Sooners who backed up Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield last season. He's a former five-star recruit as a football player who began his collegiate career in both sports at Texas A&M before transferring to Oklahoma in 2016.

Murray is now a candidate to replace Mayfield as Oklahoma's starting quarterback, and the Texas native's status as a baseball prospect likely won't affect his NCAA football career.

MLB.com money quote: "Though he continues to juggle two sports and has lost a lot of at-bats while doing so, Murray has made impressive adjustments at the plate. He's making better contact and no longer is easy prey for breaking balls, doing a better job of recognizing them and not chasing them off the plate. He has the plus-plus speed to create havoc on the bases and the bat speed and strength to produce average power."
