It appears the Shea Patterson saga has come to a conclusion, as a source told Angelique S. Chengelis of The Detroit News that the former Ole Miss quarterback will be declared eligible on Friday and can play immediately for Michigan.

While transferring undergraduates are typically forced to sit out for a season, Patterson petitioned the NCAA for immediate eligibility. The former Rebel left Ole Miss following his claim that he was misled about an NCAA investigation into the program during his original recruitment.

Patterson, who was the top-ranked quarterback in the country for the class of 2016, says Rebels coaches misinformed him about how much trouble the program was in due to NCAA rule violations.

Ole Miss self-imposed a bowl ban for the 2017 season, but the NCAA added another year of the postseason ban, as well as numerous other penalties, after ruling that the program showed a lack of institutional control.

The news would be a huge addition for the Wolverines, as Jim Harbaugh's offense struggled mightily last season in the passing attack. Patterson threw for 2,259 yards and 17 touchdowns in just seven games last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

Patterson will likely be in competition with Brandon Peters and Dylan McCaffrey for the starting job with Michigan, but as the most accomplished of the three, he has to be considered the favorite to lead the Wolverines' offense.
