Louisville will be looking for a new defensive coordinator, as Peter Sirmon handed in his resignation, effective immediately, on Friday.

"I would like to thank Peter Sirmon for all his work this season at the University of Louisville," head coach Bobby Petrino said in a statement obtained by Eric Crawford of WDRB-Louisville. "I wish him and his family all the best."

Sirmon didn't sit still for long, as it was announced later Friday that he's been hired by Cal as an associate head coach and inside linebackers coach.

The 40-year-old had just completed his first season with the Cardinals after coming over from Mississippi State following the 2016 campaign.

However, Louisville's defense dropped from 34th in the country in points allowed in 2016 to 71st this past season.
