Lane Kiffin has found a replacement for Kendal Briles at FAU, as the Owls head coach is hiring 24-year-old Charlie Weis Jr. as the team's new offensive coordinator, a source confirmed to Field Yates of ESPN.

Weis, who will be the youngest coordinator at the FBS level, served on the Atlanta Falcons' staff last season after originally joining the FAU staff as tight ends coach.

While many won't be familiar with the younger Weis, his father, Charlie, is a name most football fans remember. The 61-year-old spent 15 years in the NFL serving in various roles with the New England Patriots, New York Giants, and New York Jets. He also was the head coach at Notre Dame and Kansas from 2005-09 and 2012-14.

Weis Jr. has big shoes to fill in replacing Briles, as the 35-year-old helped run the nation's eighth-highest-scoring offense before leaving for Houston.
