Report: Arizona to give Sumlin 5-year deal worth $14.5 million

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Sumlin's deal with Arizona is worth $14.5 million over five years, pending approval from the school's regents, reports college football insider Brett McMurphy.

The salary for the new head coach in his first two seasons will be $2 million each before rising to $3.5 annually - but he's about to get significantly more money from his previous employer, Texas A&M.

The Aggies fired Sumlin after the 2017 season. According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, the school owes him a $10.5-million buyout that must be paid in the next nine days.

The incoming buyout likely allowed Arizona to hire Sumlin for a significantly lower salary than he made at his previous stop.
