Report: Texas A&M to fire Sumlin after finale vs. LSU
Texas A&M will fire head coach Kevin Sumlin after Saturday's regular-season finale versus LSU, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle.
When asked Tuesday afternoon about his status for the 2018 season, Sumlin bristled at the suggestion that he won't be back.
"Why wouldn't I be?" he said, per Ben Baby of the Dallas Morning News.
"As a coach or as a player, in this time, you can't worry about what people say," he added. "I think what you can worry about is the response of your team, the response of people in this building."
Sumlin has posted a cumulative 51-25 record since taking over Texas A&M ahead of the 2012 season, but has failed to win more than eight games in each of the previous three campaigns. He's led the Aggies to a 7-4 mark thus far in 2017.
Known as a master recruiter, Sumlin has been criticized over the last number of years for underachieving given the talent he's had to work with.
Previously, Sumlin worked at Houston from 2008-11, where he went 35-17.
