Report: Grier expected to miss 4-6 weeks after finger surgery

Ben Queen / USA TODAY Sports

West Virginia quarterback Will Grier is expected to be out four-to-six weeks while recovering from surgery on the broken middle finger of his throwing hand, ESPN's Jake Trotter reports.

The timeline means Grier - who was initially reported to be out "several weeks" after suffering the injury Saturday against Texas - could very well miss the Mountaineers' eventual bowl game.

Chris Chugunov replaced Grier following the injury and should fill in as the starter as long as the former Florida transfer remains out.

Grier, a junior, ranks fourth in the FBS in passing yards behind only Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield, and UCLA's Josh Rosen.
