Kansas State: Snyder will remain HC 'until he decides otherwise'

Scott Sewell-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas State has cleared the air regarding a reported agreement to make Oregon defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt the Wildcats' next head coach.

College football insider Brett McMurphy reported the university had come to a verbal agreement for Leavitt to replace current head coach Bill Snyder upon his retirement, and that he would receive $3 million if he was not named head coach by Jan. 1, 2018.

The university released a statement Friday, obtained by College Football Talk, to combat any speculation and assure the public that Snyder's job is his as long as he wants it.

"As has been the case and stated many times, Coach Snyder is our football coach and will remain coach until he decides otherwise," the statement reads.

According to McMurphy's report, Snyder has stipulations in his contract that gives him "appropriate input" as to who his successor is, and his wish is for his son Sean, the current associate head coach and special teams coordinator with the Wildcats, to be the man to take his place.

Snyder is in the midst of his 26th season as Kansas State head coach and owns a 207-110-1 record with the program.
