Heisman Power Rankings: Mayfield can't be stopped, Love shines through injury
Another week, another dominating performance for Heisman Trophy favorites, as the top two spots solidified even further in Week 11.
A couple of familiar names filled out this week's No. 3 and No. 4 spots, while a popular favorite has seen his stock slide to No. 5 with a string of subpar performances.
Here is this week's edition of the Heisman Power Rankings.
5. Saquon Barkley, RB - Penn State
It's becoming increasingly difficult to look past Barkley's glaringly mediocre numbers in recent weeks when pondering his Heisman candidacy. There's no disputing his freakish talents, but games with 44, 63, and 35 rushing yards doesn't exactly scream "best player in the nation." The Penn State running back has been outperformed by his peers in recent weeks, and needs a big game to vault himself back into serious contention.
4. Mason Rudolph, QB - Oklahoma State
Baker Mayfield isn't the only quarterback in the state of Oklahoma that deserves Heisman discussion. Mason Rudolph has arguably been the most prolific passer in the nation for much of the year with 3,690 yards and 30 touchdown passes, and that effort could put Oklahoma State one win away from its first Big 12 title since 2011.
3. Lamar Jackson, QB - Louisville
Jackson's performance against Virginia was typical of his efforts this season that have not only produced winning results for his team, but have also continuously boosted his Heisman resume. The junior continues to mirror his Heisman campaign from a year ago and could very well exceed his marks in passing yards, rushing yards, and completion percentage. He may not be the popular vote right now, but he's as viable as any.
2. Bryce Love, RB - Stanford
Love took on No. 9 Washington essentially on one leg Friday due to his nagging ankle injury, but still managed 166 yards and three touchdowns. The only blips on Love's Heisman radar have come due to said injury, and Friday's effort is encouraging for the nation's leading rusher. Say what you will about the strength of the Pac-12, there isn't anyone in college football putting up numbers on the ground like the Stanford star.
1. Baker Mayfield, QB - Oklahoma
The hits just keep on coming for Mayfield, as another big-time performance in a 38-20 victoryfurther cemented the signal-caller as the Heisman favorite. As if 18-for-27 passing for 333 yards and three touchdowns wasn't enough against No. 6 TCU, Mayfield flashed versatility with 50 rushing yards on 11 carries against a team that had surrendered 20 or more points just three times prior in 2017. The Heisman is Mayfield's to lose at this point, with only Love and perhaps Jackson left as genuine contenders to capture the hardware.
