Will Grier: Florida's system limited me as a QB

Ben Queen / USA TODAY Sports

Will Grier has plenty of liberty in West Virginia's offense, and apparently that's something he didn't receive in Jim McElwain's system at Florida.

"It's fun to just have freedom at quarterback, which is something I didn't have a whole lot of at Florida," the ex-Gator said on ESPN's Campus Conversation podcast, according to Thomas Goldkamp of 247 Sports.

"(Offensive coordinator Jake Spavital) gives me a lot of freedom. He gives me a lot of different options on every play and a lot of freedom to be able to check plays if we're not getting a good look."

Grier suited up six times for Florida in 2015, leading the Gators to six victories, before a failed drug test facilitated his transfer out of Gainesville. Florida has rolled through quarterbacks since Grier left, but has yet to find one as proficient as its former freshman standout.

In six contests this season, Grier has thrown for 2,092 yards with 21 touchdowns and five interceptions, leading West Viginia to a 4-2 record.
