Georgia fans have had plently of reasons to be optimistic about this year's team, and one notable alum thinks the 2017 Bulldogs have what it takes to go all the way.

Legendary Georgia running back Herschel Walker heaped high praise on his alma mater Wednesday when asked of his expectations for the team, saying confidently that he thinks it has what it takes to bring home the program's first national championship since 1980, according to Jordan D. Hill of The Ledger-Enquirer.

"There's no doubt," Walker said. "During the Notre Dame game, I was coming back from Tripler (Army Medical Center in Hawaii). I didn't go to the game, but I happened to catch a little bit of it on television. I said, 'That looks like the old Junkyard Dawgs.'"

Walker was a freshman during Georgia's last title run, and said one glaring similarity between that team and the one head coach Kirby Smart now has is the senior leadership throughout the roster.

"I think in 1980, it was an interesting time," Walker said. "We had a great, great senior class, which this group has, as well. We had a lot of good talent there."

Senior leadership isn't the only thing that Georgia's all-time leading rusher has been impressed with however, as the command from quarterback Jake Fromm has managed to catch Walker's eye as well.

"My impression (of Fromm) is he's a leader, and that's what you want on a team," Walker said. "If you're going to be a championship team, you've got to have a leader. He's a leader. You watch the way he plays, but you also consider that he's got the pedigree. You watch the things he's done in the past, and you tell yourself that the guy's done it before."
