UAB working on long-term extension with head coach Bill Clark

UAB's football program has been put through the ringer in recent years, and it seems the one constant through all the ups and downs could be sticking around for quite a bit longer.

UAB is reportedly in talks with head football coach Bill Clark on a contract extension that will keep him in Birmingham long term, according to college football insider Brett McMurphy. Clark's current contract is set to expire on June 1, 2020.

"We're fully supportive of Bill," UAB athletic director Mark Ingram told McMurphy. "We want him to be successful and want him to continue to be our head coach for many years to come. We're extremely proud of him, our staff, and our team."

"Given the success of our team, I'm not surprised someone else would want Coach Clark to be their coach," Ingram added. "But we are fully committed to keeping Coach Clark at UAB. We want him to be a Blazer for many years to come."

Clark has headed the Blazers' football program since being hired prior to the 2014 season, experiencing the program's downfall later that year, its two-year hiatus, and its subsequent resurrection in 2017.

Clark holds an all-time record of 10-8 at UAB, and has led the Blazers to a 4-2 record this season that places them in a tie for second in Conference USA's West Division.
