Michigan's O'Korn shoulders offensive struggles: 'I need to pick it up'

It hasn't been pretty for Michigan's offense the past few games, with the anemic passing attack being the main culprit.

Since losing starter Wilton Speight for an extended period of time three weeks ago, it's been the John O'Korn show. And the fifth-year senior has struggled in the feature role.

After throwing three interceptions in a loss to Michigan State two weeks ago, O'Korn totaled just 58 passing yards in Saturday's win over Indiana. The 6-foot-4, 211-pounder acknowledged on Monday that he needs to improve his play if the offense is going to get better.

"(My play) was definitely not up to my own goals and aspirations. I need to pick it up, simple as that," O'Korn told Nick Baumgardner of the Detroit Free Press. "I have to hit guys when they're open. Run when I need to and trust the offensive line. There were a few plays Saturday (against Indiana) where we had guys open."

Michigan largely relied on its defense and rushing attack to get the win over Indiana on Saturday, but will need a passing threat this coming week against No. 2 Penn State. The Nittany Lions are scoring 39.7 points per contest this season, good for 16th spot in the country.

With weapons such as Saquon Barkley and Trace McSorley, it's almost a guarantee that Penn State will put up points against the Wolverines defense. Whether O'Korn can get the offense rolling to match his opponent's probable output will be seen Saturday night in Beaver Stadium.
