Love listed as Heisman favorite after torrid start

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Bryce Love has caught the eye of oddsmakers, who now have the Stanford star favorited to win the Heisman Trophy in the latest list from Westgate Superbook.

The standout junior is averaging an absurd 10.3 yards per carry, totaling 1,387 rushing yards on the young season. That figure is almost 300 yards clear of his next best competitor.

Love's start has been just enough to place him ahead of Penn State's Saquon Barkley, who sits at 8-5, and a pair of senior quarterbacks, J.T. Barrett of Ohio State and Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma, who are at 7-1.

Last year's winner Lamar Jackson sits behind Oklahoma State pivot Mason Rudolph at 15-1, while the preseason favorite Sam Darnold of USC has plummeted to 35-1 after stumbling out of the gates.

Player Opening odds Current odds
Bryce Love 100-1 7-5
Saquon Barkley 20-1 8-5
J.T. Barrett 10-1 7-1
Baker Mayfield 7-1 7-1
Mason Rudolph 15-1 10-1
Lamar Jackson 8-1 15-1
Sam Darnold 5-1 35-1

A hat tip to those who put a wager on Love prior to the season, as the first-year starter's odds were a whopping 100-1 to win the trophy.

Barkley has a three-game stretch against Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State starting on Saturday, and a strong performance could see him jump Love for the top spot by the middle of November.
