Heisman Power Rankings: All you need is Love

Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports

A wild week in the college football world saw four top-10 teams lose on the road to unranked opponents, sending two quarterbacks tumbling out of the Heisman Power Rankings entirely.

Josh Rosen and Luke Falk struggled mightily on the road this weekend, and lost their top-five spots to two familiar names.

Here are the best in the nation after seven weeks:

5. J.T. Barrett, QB - Ohio State

Anyone remember Barrett? After a dismal performance in a home loss to Oklahoma, most pundits removed the Ohio State quarterback from any Heisman talk, but he's proving that to be silly of late. Since the loss to the Sooners, Barrett has completed 72 percent of his passes for 1,351 yards and 18 touchdowns against zero interceptions. He's also added 232 yards rushing and four touchdowns to drive the Ohio State offense. With the likes of Penn State, Iowa, Michigan State, and Michigan remaining on the schedule, Barrett could push for the trophy if he can maintain his sizzling play against tougher opponents.

4. Lamar Jackson, QB - Louisville

It didn't seem possible, but last year's Heisman winner, Jackson, might actually be better this season. Unfortunately for the standout junior, Louisville is nowhere near the same quality in 2017 which will make it very difficult for him to repeat. Jackson absolutely torched Boston College on Saturday for 512 total yards and five touchdowns, but the Eagles emerged victorious by a 45-42 scoreline. The Florida native is fourth in the country is passing yards and 15th in rushing yards. He probably won't become the second player to win back-to-back Heisman's, but there's no doubt he's among the most dangerous players in recent memory.

3. Saquon Barkley, RB - Penn State

Barkley and Penn State were on byes this week, but the Nittany Lions star has done enough to maintain his spot in the top 5, thanks to things like this:

With Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State next on the Nittany Lions' schedule, Barkley will make or break his Heisman campaign in the next three weeks.

2. Baker Mayfield, QB - Oklahoma

Most quarterbacks wouldn't stay in a contest after taking the massive hit Mayfield did Saturday against Texas, but the veteran pivot isn't built like most quarterbacks. The Oklahoma star bounced back from the injury to hit Mark Andrews on a late 59-yard touchdown to give the Sooners the win in the Red River Rivalry. Mayfield finished with 302 yards passing and two touchdowns, while showing his elite pocket awareness throughout the contest. While he did throw his first interception of the season, Mayfield provided more than enough reasons for him to sit second in the Heisman Power Rankings.

1. Bryce Love, RB - Stanford

There's still plenty of time to go in the season, but through seven weeks the Heisman Trophy is Love's to lose. The Stanford star took over for Christian McCaffrey this season and is producing similar results for the Cardinal offense. Love entered Saturday's game against Oregon leading the country in rushing and wasted absolutely no time in making his mark on the Ducks.

Love is now up to an absurd 1,387 yards rushing on the season, almost 300 more than the next closest competitor. Stanford is on the bye this week, but unless Mayfield or Barkley turn in a massive game, his spot atop the rankings is likely secure.
