Texas' Herman confirms Ehlinger will remain starter going forward

The quarterback controversy in Texas appears to be over, folks.

Longhorns head coach Tom Herman informed the media following his team's 29-24 defeat to No. 12 Oklahoma that Sam Ehlinger will remain the starting quarterback going forward, including when sophomore Shane Buechele fully recovers from a nagging ankle injury, according to Jake Trotter of ESPN.

Herman provided some context to his decision, saying that Ehlinger "showed me all he needed to show me in Los Angeles ... he didn't need to show me anything in this game," according to Nick Moyle of San Antonio Express News.

Ehlinger's efforts thus far this season have not only left an impression on his head coach, but also with Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield. The Heisman Trophy candidate offered a tip of the hat to Ehlinger after the win, praising his toughness while making a bold prediction.

"A tough kid. ... Just how we Austin boys do it. He's going to have a heck of a career," Mayfield said following the game, according to Trotter.
