Russell Lansford / USA TODAY Sports

Arizona quarterback Brandon Dawkins was forced from Saturday's game against Colorado on the Wildcats' first drive after attempting just one pass, but his departure opened the door for a historic performance from backup Khalil Tate.

The sophomore quarterback impressed immediately on his first drive of the game, running past everyone en route to a 58-yard touchdown.

Tate had plenty left in the tank for his second drive of the game, this time taking it 28 yards for another rushing score.

He finished the game with an astonishing 327 rushing yards and four touchdowns on just 14 attempts for an average of 23.4 yards per carry.

His 31-yard run late in the game set the FBS record for single-game rushing yards by a quarterback, according to the Wildcats.

Oh, by the way, the quarterback also completed 11 of 12 passing attempts for 142 yards and a fifth touchdown while leading his team to a 45-42 victory.

Tate's production on the ground in conjunction with Colorado running back Phillip Lindsay's 281 yards set an FBS record for the most combined rushing yards between opposing players at 608, according to ESPN.
