Turnabout was fair play Saturday in Oklahoma, as Iowa State not only came away with an upset victory over the Sooners, but also left a parting gift at midfield in Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield famously planted a Sooners flag at midfield after defeating Ohio State on the road earlier this season, and Cyclones defensive back Evrett Edwards returned the favor in a cruel twist of fate for Oklahoma fans.
The victory for Iowa State was the first over Oklahoma since 1990 and just its second since 1962.
Joel Lanning starred for the Cyclones on Saturday while playing both linebacker and quarterback. He saw a total of 78 snaps, recording eight tackles, a quarterback sack, and a fumble recovery on defense, along with two of three pass completions for 25 yards and nine carries for 35 yards on offense.
The Ames Police Department was certainly impressed, suggesting that Lanning's diversity could also include a role in law enforcement.
