Georgia head coach Kirby Smart hit the recruiting jackpot Friday, as five-star dual-threat quarterback and No. 1 overall recruit in the 2018 class Justin Fields announced his commitment to the Bulldogs.

Fields elected to go with Georgia over other rumored finalists such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, and LSU after decommitting from Penn State on June 6. Fields heaped praise on both Georgia and the coaching staff during a press conference following his announcement, specifically running backs coach Dell McGee.

"He’s the best recruiter in the country,” Fields said, according to Jeff Sentell of DawgNation. “Even before I had the offer. Even before I was really even popular. I wasn’t really on the map in the country but he kept texting me back. So we had a longtime relationship, and I think I have a good relationship with all the coaches. I love it up there."

"I don’t even know, to be honest with you,” Fields added when asked if there was a second program that made his decision difficult. “Georgia just kind of separated themselves with what they have been doing this season, how well they improved from last year and just by what they have been doing on offense and defense and also special teams. That’s kind of what separated them."

The native of Kennesaw, Ga., becomes the second quarterback ever ranked in the top five overall of his class to commit to Georgia, joining current Detroit Lions stalwart Matt Stafford who joined the Bulldogs as the No. 5 overall recruit in 2006.

With both Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm currently on the Bulldogs' roster, the addition of Fields creates a massive surplus at the quarterback position that will need to be dealt with once preparation begins for the 2018 season.
