In a potential game-of-the-year candidate, USC managed to outlast Texas in a double-overtime thriller Saturday, thanks in part to a forced fumble that stopped the Longhorns dead in their tracks.
On second-and-2 in the first phase of the second overtime period, Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger looked to follow up a successful run with another up-the-middle dash for the end zone. USC defensive lineman Christian Rector had other plans and was able to strip Ehlinger of the ball, leading to a recovery for the Trojans.
After USC conducted three plays on offense, walk-on freshman kicker Chase McGrath successfully converted a 43-yard field goal to knock off the Longhorns.
