Washington State loses Luke Falk to apparent head injury

James Snook / USA TODAY Sports

Washington State was dealt a tough blow Saturday as star quarterback Luke Falk was forced to leave the game against Boise State after suffering an apparent head injury.

Falk was removed in the fourth quarter after his head collided with the ground following a sack. He also fumbled on the play and Curtis Weaver returned it 55 yards for a Broncos touchdown, giving Boise State a 31-10 lead.

After limping off the field with the assistance of trainers, Falk was replaced by Tyler Hilinski at quarterback. It was actually the second time Hilinski took over in the game, as Cougars head coach Mike Leach inserted him for a drive during the third quarter with Falk struggling, but Hilinski was intercepted, leading to a Broncos touchdown.

Hilinski would go on to lead the Cougars to a 47-44 victory in triple overtime.

Falk was 24-of-34 for 193 yards with an interception prior to leaving the game. He became Washington State's all-time leading passer during the second quarter.
