Ohio State backup quarterback Joe Burrow will be out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair a broken bone in his hand Tuesday, the school announced in a release obtained by Mark Kunz of BCSN.
The redshirt sophomore looked impressive in limited action last season, completing 22-of-28 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns.
While star senior J.T. Barrett will get the majority of the playing time, his injury history makes a quality backup necessary. With Burrow hurt, redshirt freshman Dwayne Haskins will fill the void as the No. 2 quarterback for Urban Meyer's outfit.
The injury also means highly touted freshman Tate Martell moves to No. 3 on the depth chart.
