Auburn's White was prepared for Stidham to win starting job

Sean White saw the writing on the wall.

After spending last year as the starting quarterback at Auburn, White was forced to watch head coach Gus Malzahn bring in former prized Baylor recruit Jarrett Stidham in to compete for the No. 1 spot.

When Malzahn officially named Stidham the Tigers' starting quarterback on Monday, White offered his respect for his new teammate and admitted that despite his best effort, he had prepared himself for the eventual outcome, according to James Crepea of Al.com.

"I was mentally prepared, I would say," White said. "He's a really good quarterback. I have no hard feelings toward the coaches or anything for bringing him in. It's their job to bring in the best quarterback they think they can bring in. That's their job.

"Jarrett has done really good and he deserves to be the starter. I think I've done well, I think I've improved, I think I'm better than I ever have been but I understand they have to make a decision."

The choice to roll with Stidham is a risky one considering the fact that he hasn't suited up for a regular-season game since 2015. White made it clear, however, that he will be hoping for nothing but success for Stidham.

"I'm not hoping for Jarrett to do poorly at all. I want him to succeed, and I'm going to do everything I can do to help him succeed and help our team win," White said. " ... I know I'm not going into it as the starter but I'm excited. I think we have a great team and we're going to do really well this year. I'm all in for this season for whatever they ask me to do."
