Les Miles has expressed significant interest in becoming the next permanent head coach at Ole Miss, reports Dan Wolken of USA Today Sports.

Wolken adds that Miles would likely have interest in any Power 5 school with a vacancy at head coach. The former LSU boss was rumored to be on the radar of several programs this offseason, but was passed over by all of them, leaving him unemployed.

The Rebels are set to enter the 2017 season under Matt Luke as their interim head coach after Hugh Freeze resigned amid a revelation that he used a school-provided cell phone to contact an escort service. The attractiveness of the Ole Miss job is likely to be impacted by how hard the NCAA comes down on the program for alleged recruiting violations. Ole Miss already self-imposed a bowl ban for the upcoming season as a result of the violations.

Miles, 63, was fired by LSU last season following a 2-2 start. He posted a 114-34 record and won a national championship during his tenure with the Tigers, which began in 2005.
