Former Bowling Green star Matt Johnson joining Babers at Syracuse

Matt Johnson is reuniting with Dino Babers, as the former prolific Bowling Green quarterback announced he'll be joining his ex-coach at Syracuse as an offensive quality control assistant.

Johnson was an absolute monster in Babers' up-tempo passing attack, throwing for a ridiculous 4,946 yards and 46 touchdowns in the 2015 season. Both numbers ranked second in the country for a Falcons offense that put up over 42 points per contest.

Since graduating a year ago, Johnson has spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL before deciding to retire from playing.

Johnson could be a very valuable resource for Orange quarterback Eric Dungey as he begins his junior season. The 6-foot-3, 207-pounder was posting gaudy numbers in his first year under Babers before injury forced him out of the final three games. Even with that absence, Dungey still threw for 2,679 yards and 15 touchdowns while also adding six scores on the ground.

Syracuse opens the 2017 season on Sept. 1st against Central Connecticut.
