Michigan man Phelps still bitter over 4th-down spot vs. Ohio State

It's been almost six months since Ohio State knocked off Michigan in last year's version of "The Game," but Michael Phelps is still not over the controversial loss.

The Olympic swimming legend is a longtime supporter of the Wolverines and trained at Michigan while his coach, Bob Bowman, served as the school's swim coach.

Phelps was in Illinois Monday at a golf event that featured both Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh, and was asked about the fourth-down spot to J.T. Barrett that gave Ohio State a first down in overtime to keep the game alive. The Buckeyes would score the winning touchdown later on in that drive.

"We got screwed," Phelps laughed to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg. "It was an amazing game, you always see great hits, it's how the game is supposed to be played. Except last year. Hopefully moving forward we can get some better calls."

The 23-time Olympic gold medalist is a Michigan man through and through, but admitted he has nothing but admiration for Meyer's coaching ability. Despite holding that respect, he made it clear to the coach earlier on Monday that his allegiances make it impossible to root for him.

"As hard as it is for me to say this, I respect the hell out of your coaching, but I can't root for you guys," Phelps said to Meyer. "I have a Michigan 'M' tattoo, it's been my school forever."

This year's edition of "The Game" is at Michigan, where Harbaugh and the Wolverines will be looking to hand Meyer his first loss against the Buckeyes' fiercest rival.
