Alabama offensive lineman Lester Cotton was arrested Friday on charges of drug possession, according to Kelvin Reynolds of WBRC Fox 6 News, citing the Tuscaloosa Police Department.

Cotton, a former four-star recruit in the Crimson Tide's 2015 recruiting class, was subsequently charged with possession of marijuana II and possession of drug paraphernalia when officers searched his vehicle after stopping him at an intersection, a Tuscaloosa Police spokeswoman said.

The arresting officer "smelled the odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle," according to Reynolds, citing the spokeswoman, leading to the search and discovery.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban later released a statement regarding the arrest, stating: "We are in the process of determining the facts in the situation with Lester Cotton. We will discipline internally like we have done in the past."

As a sophomore last season, Cotton appeared in all 15 games for Alabama, starting the first two games of the season at left guard and three other games at right guard.
