Desperate to end a six-game losing streak to Florida State, Miami fans showed their disdain for a targeting call on safety Jamal Carter late in the fourth quarter by throwing garbage onto the field, temporarily delaying the game.

The call gave the Seminoles a key first down, though they were later forced to punt anyway. Miami used its ensuing possession to score a touchdown with 1:38 left in regulation, cutting Florida State's lead to 20-19, but the Hurricanes had their game-tying extra-point attempt blocked.
