The Atlanta Braves' record-breaking signing bonus for first-round selection Kyle Wright appears set to be surpassed, as the Tampa Bay Rays are expected to set a new record with Brendan McKay, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.

McKay was taken one pick prior to Wright on Monday, with the fourth overall pick in the MLB Draft.

Passan expects his bonus to be only $25,000 more than Wright's $7-million sum.

The Rays are planning to develop McKay - who plays both first base and pitcher - as a two-way player, after he slugged 17 home runs and posted a 2.34 ERA with Louisville this past season.

He's still on the roster with Louisville, which recently advanced beyond the Super Regional stage. The official deal won't likely come until the conclusion of the College World Series.
