Mariners honor Griffey by drafting WR son

The Seattle Mariners love their kids, especially The Kid's kids.
Twenty-nine years after they made Ken Griffey Jr. the first overall pick in the 1987 MLB amateur draft, the club used a 24th-round pick in the 2016 draft Saturday to select his son Trey Griffey, who doesn't actually play baseball.
The junior Griffey Jr., who presumably goes by the name Trey because he was named Ken Griffey III at birth, instead plays football as a wide receiver at Arizona.
In what appears to be a slice of poetry, the M's drafted Trey in Round 24; his father became a cultural icon while donning jersey No. 24 for several years in Seattle.
The Mariners also gave their Hall of Fame outfielder the honor of announcing the selection of his son.
