Point guard prospect Payne breaks finger, out 3 weeks

Rising point guard prospect Cameron Payne has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture on his right ring finger that the Murray State product suffered during a workout for the Denver Nuggets on Monday.

The injury won't require surgery and will keep Payne sidelined for three weeks, according to Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress. The issue shouldn't affect Payne's stock, which has been rising. Most expect him to be one of the first three point guards chosen Thursday.

The injury was originally believed to be less severe and had been diagnosed as a wrist contusion.

Payne plans to attend the draft on June 25.

Scouting Report: Cameron Payne

With a three-week timetable, Payne should be available for summer league play, which tips off in Orlando on July 4 and Las Vegas on July 10. Payne is expected to go anywhere from the lottery to the middle of the first round.
