Duke crushes San Diego State, Utah up next
Led by Jahlil Okafor's 26 points, Duke had no trouble dispatching of San Diego State in the Round of 32 with a 68-49 victory.
After scoring 21 points in the Blue Devils' tournament opener against Robert Morris, Okafor has put up 47 points in the first two games of his March Madness career. That's the most ever for a Duke freshman in his first two tournament games.
The Blue Devils led 37-24 at the half behind 18 points from Okafor and looked to be in position for the win. In fact, some thought the game was already over.
The Aztecs were still in the game, trailing 44-37 in the second half, when everything fell apart. Duke went on a 20-2 run with San Diego State failing to hit a field goal for more than nine minutes, putting this one to bed.
Justise Winslow stuffed the stat sheet for Duke, racking up 13 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, four steals and three blocks, including this massive rejection of J.J. O'Brien.
San Diego State was battling more than just the Blue Devils on the court, as several players and coaches - including Steve Fisher - were battling a stomach virus that only made for more of a challenge.
Winston Shepard was the only Aztec to reach double-digits with 12 points, as San Diego State shot 32.8 percent as a team and just 15.4 percent from 3-point range. Duke, on the other hand, shot 54.5 and 42.9 percent respectively.
Duke is off to the Sweet Sixteen for the sixth time in the last eight years, where it will square off with Utah.
