SEC commissioner Mike Slive wants to gut idea of freshman ineligibility

While some conferences highlight the rosiness of a potential freshmen ineligibility rule in the NCAA, SEC commissioner Mike Slive isn't too sweet on it.

The rule in question would prohibit incoming freshmen from suiting up, blanketing them with a mandatory redshirt in order to acclimate them to college life from an academic standpoint before setting foot on the playing field.

Slive released a statement Monday indicating that this isn't a decision that needs to be rushed, according to AP's Ralph Russo

He feels stepping back and assessing individual cases needs to be the priority, rather than assuming that every athlete prioritizes athletics over academics.
