Missouri State is working on a deal to bring back former head coach Cuonzo Martin, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Martin was the head coach at Missouri State from 2008-11 and went 61-41 during that time. After his tenure with the Bears, he went on to coach Tennessee, Cal, and Missouri, who dismissed him in 2022. He notably led the Volunteers on a run to the Sweet 16 in 2014.
His last three trips to March Madness ended in the opening round: 2016 (California), 2018 (Missouri), and 2021 (Missouri).
Two of Missouri State's best seasons happened under Martin. The Bears went 26-9 in 2010-11 and 24-12 the season prior. However, the program hasn't been to the NCAA Tournament since 2000.
Missouri State parted ways with Dana Ford after six seasons.
